As demand grows across quick-service restaurants (QSR) and food delivery sectors for high-performance, eco-friendly food packaging, Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has announced the regional launch of kp Infinity Tavola. The mono-material packaging solution addresses two major challenges in food delivery: heat retention and material recyclability.
Made from expanded polypropylene (EPP), the lightweight container features a interlocking structure made of two identical components. Designed to serve as a secure takeaway container for delivery, it can also open up to act as a dine-in tray.
Solving the Cardboard Contamination Challenge
Traditional paper and corrugated cardboard pizza boxes often end up in landfills because grease and food oils contaminate the paper fibers during transit. In contrast, the non-absorbent EPP structure of the kp Infinity Tavola acts as an oil and moisture barrier. This preserves structural integrity during transport while keeping the container clean for standard polypropylene (PP) recycling collections.
Comparative testing demonstrates that the solution keeps pizzas up to 7.3°C warmer after five minutes than traditional cardboard boxes, maintaining higher internal temperatures for up to an hour. Austin Schwarz, Sales Director (UK&I) at Klöckner Pentaplast, noted: “Operators are under pressure to deliver food quickly, maintain quality during transit, and elevate the customer experience. kp Infinity Tavola addresses those needs in a single, versatile design that arrives flat and requires zero assembly.”
